About Justin

Justin Piff, Founder and President of JPiff Strategies LLC, has 20 years of experience in applied research, program evaluation, and strategic planning, with a focus on philanthropic initiatives and nonprofit organizations. He loves helping philanthropies and nonprofits clarify their goals and learn from efforts to reach those goals. Proud of his roots in the social work profession, Justin is passionate about using data to deepen social impact and advance equity.

Justin has extensive experience helping clients use data and evaluation findings to inform strategies. He’s led evaluations and strategic consulting engagements for a number of complex regional and national systems change initiatives aimed at improving access and opportunity for youth and adults. He has evaluated collective impact and place-based systems change efforts in dozens of communities seeking to advance equitable outcomes across the cradle-to-career continuum. He also brings deep experience helping philanthropies and nonprofits build their capacity for evaluation, learning, and transformational change.

Prior to founding JPiff Strategies, Justin spent 14 years at Equal Measure, most recently as Vice President, Learning and Impact. In that role, Justin provided strategic direction to project directors and teams, including subject matter expertise in systems change, capacity building, social change strategies, and qualitative and quantitative evaluation approaches. At Equal Measure, his clients included The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Aspen Institute, Lumina Foundation, HealthSpark Foundation, StriveTogether, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and Student African American Brotherhood. To start his career, he worked in quality management and evaluation for providers of behavioral health, substance abuse, and juvenile justice services, grounding his perspective on the realities of using data in nonprofit settings.

Justin holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Eastern University and a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. He also serves as an adjunct instructor in La Salle University’s Masters in Nonprofit Leadership and Villanova University’s Master of Public Administration programs.

How we work

Context-driven

We ground our work in community and organizational contexts to ensure insights are responsive and relevant.

Strengths-based

We identify and build on strengths, using “what’s working” as a foundation to explore new possibilities that leverage the strengths of clients, communities, and systems.

Solution-focused

We’re not afraid of problems, but we don’t dwell on them. We find practical and effective ways to work toward progress.

Flexible

We are adaptive to evolving needs and new learning, embracing emergence and adjusting our approach as we go.

On a Personal Note

Justin loves exploring new restaurants with his wife, listening to live music, and spending time outside with his lab/coonhound mix, Honus. A lifelong learner, he’s regularly humbled by his newfound passion for throwing pottery.
